Day One of Investigating Case 72-0173
Video-Based Exploration:
We traveled to Wawawai Canyon for the first time today. After discussions with Sheriff Myers, I wanted to explore the area in-person and get an idea of the landscape. I traveled with my crew and shot with DSLR Canon T71, GoPro, and Canon M50.
Plans to revisit and film with an aerial drone are in motion.
We captured footage along Wawawai Rd and shot near Mile Markers 8-14.
The presumed location was identified to be roughly 1.3 miles into the canyon driving down Wawawai Rd. The land where Joyce was found 50 years ago is currently private property. I may have snuck around to capture the area. However, it was already darkening, so we returned another day to focus on photography.
Personal Log and Mental Notes:
The vast canyon would not have been easy to navigate at night 50 years ago.
When I drove through the area and filmed, I realized that Wawawai might’ve been where the college kids went to a party. I’m speculating at this point.
However, Ted Bundy would have needed to be more familiar with the back roads to get there. Especially in the yellow bug, it seems bizarre to think he could navigate the landscapes and leave Joyce’s remains there.
Furthermore, if Wawawai Canyon was a party spot for WSU college kids and local teenagers, a local familiar with the area could easily navigate the terrain and know where and how far to leave Joyce’s remains.
