50 Years Later: The Anniversary of Finding Joyce

Today is the 50th anniversary of when Joyce’s body was found.

I again traveled to the canyon to leave flowers and mark the location’s coordinates. I drew the coordinates on the road’s side leading to the trail down.

46.60826° N, 117.30114° W

The location is still hard to pinpoint exactly.

But after reading through all the case files and not finding any exact coordinates and accurate maps, this is an excellent start to what I am working on.

I have spent many hours in that canyon and can conclusively say she was found near mile marker 9.

Roughly 1.3 miles from the initial crossroad, turn off to Wawawai Rd.

Later in the day, I filmed my first interview with Bruce LePage.

We traveled to the family farm in Pasco.

It has been a while since I conducted a filmed interview, and it was rusty. The setup took too long, the discussion needed to be shorter, and I was nervous.

We filmed a two-camera setup with a Cannon M50 and Canon T71 using 33mm and 200mm lenses. I used a RODE mic and attempted to use my wired lav mic, but the batteries died.

We filmed well over 36GB of digital footage, and I utilized the natural lighting of the LePage family home.

We also used some practical lighting, an old lamp that had to have belonged to the LePage family for many years.

While at the house, I saw where Joyce would have wandered.

She seemed to prefer traveling barefoot around the farm.

I also returned the boxes to Bruce and obtained the old family videos filmed on Super 8 reels.

Included was also the DVD version of the footage from the film. I can now begin editing the old camera montage sequence.

Personal Log and Mental Notes:

Today is a day for Joyce.

Before heading over, I stopped at a small grocery store and picked up some flowers.

I left some flowers at the location adjacent to the trail.

She used unique adjectives when describing something, or how she would distinctly write her letters, specifically the letter “S,” in a precise way all stand out to me.
